Meet Johana

Johana is a bright and ambitious young woman with big dreams. Having completed her nursing education and midwifery training, she now attends births and delivers prenatal care at a local community birthing center, a role that sets her apart as she has yet to have children of her own. Her aspiration is to continue her studies to become an ultrasound technician. There are no ultrasound technicians on the western side of Lake Atitlan where she lives, so she would be the first. Though she has not been able to start her official studies, she has learned how to use a portable ultrasound from visiting health care providers and has been able to detect fetal anomolies in the prenatal care she provides.
